Mates in Mind – Lets Get Construction talking…

Did you know that suicide kills far more construction workers than falls? Because of this, SeaBro are now aiming to help raise awareness of the importance of Mental Health. Our first step, training our staff to understand and deliver Mental Health First Aid. Our Health and Safety Officer, Grant Lawrence is taking on this task with both hands and talks of his own experience…

“After suffering with mental illness for many years since I was a child but never actually being diagnosed till I was an adult, everyday life was always a struggle for me. No one understood me or the problems I was going through, and I was labelled as a “problem child”.

I have just completed the 1st step by completing a mental health first aid course which I will be putting into practice by being appointed as our in-house Mental Health First Aider.

I get great pleasure from helping others and feeling like I’m making a difference to someone else’s life, even if it just to listen.

Since I was diagnosed I found my problems easier to deal with and decided to help myself through mindfulness and meditation which has now spurred me on to help others who are suffering deep down the same as I was.

It’s ok not to be ok all of the time but if you do feel like you would like to speak to someone then I’m always available to listen no matter how big or small you think the problem is. Anything we speak about will be STRICTLY confidential. Don’t suffer in silence. It’s good to talk 🙂 “

“Just because you don’t understand it doesn’t mean it isn’t so.” –Lemony Snicket

New Contracts won…

Barnes Construction – Prittlewell – A new hospice for Southend, which will eventually be caring for thousands of local people, has started to take shape as a major installation on site takes place. Building work on the site started in October 2018 and is expected to be completed in February 2020. The new Fair Havens will be able to care for twice as many patients across Southend, Castle Point and Rochford who are facing an illness which cannot be cured. At their current hospice in Chalkwell Avenue they turn away 11 patients every month because they don’t have enough beds and their facilities are no longer fit for purpose. We are extremely proud to be part of this project and hope it goes some way to supporting the local community.

David Wilson Homes – Southminster – A collection of 94 units, consisting of 2, 3 and 4 bed houses. This is our first project with David Wilson Homes for some time now, so we are looking forward to working with them again and hopefully many more…

Billy’s Fight

On the 23rd March at the Circus Tavern, Bill Lawrence had his MMA fight and got the win via a split decision. Bill will be straight back in the ring on the 11th May at The Troxy.

If anyone would like to come along and show their support, call Bill at the office on 01702 522442.

Extendable Inside Board Brackets

We seem to keep losing or mislaying the inserts to the Inside Board Brackets. Below you’ll see a pic of the bracket (as a whole), alongside the insert that extends and is held in by the nut and bolt.

Please can you check that these aren’t getting thrown in the skip by accident and are returned to our yard as they come out…

As SeaBro grows, we find that our requirements to expand the team are necessary to keep up with the ever evolving Construction Industry. More often than not, we find that most scaffolding requires a design. With that in mind, we have taken the step to hire our own Scaffold Design Engineer – meet Gatu!

Once he is settled, we are sure you’ll see him regularly visiting site
